D.A.R.E Essay

Posted: May 1, 2012 in Uncategorized

This essay is about what I learned during our weeks in the D.A.R.E program. We learned many things, this what I learned.

One week during dare we talked about marijuana and what it can do to your brain. What I thought was really cool was when Deputy Thomas said that marijuana can be a male or female. Deputy Thomas showed us pictures of marijuana growing in the corn fields which I thought was unbelievable. He told us that marijuana can kill your brain cells.

We also talked about tobacco. Deputy Thomas showed us Smoking Suzy and what the smoke from tobacco can do to your body like form tar in your lungs or even give us lung cancer. He also showed us Mr. Dip lip and what chewing tobacco can do to your mouth like making your lip swell up.

I learned the different kinds of peer pressure like friendly, teasing, indirect, heavy and positive. I also learned how to avoid people trying to get me to do something like drink beer or smoke marijuana.

I remember doing the D.U.I goggles so we could see what it was like to be drunk. When I did it I got really confused. Then he made us catch a ball with the goggles on, which wasn’t that hard but I still had to concentrate. That’s when I started to feel bad for all the people who died in a crash by someone who was under the influence.

Everything I learned I will remember. I pledge to never drink alcohol, smoke or do any drugs so I can be successful in life and be able to play sports. Hopefully everyone else will stay drug free too.

Dear Mr. McGuire

Good content but please check seen/saw.

Dear Mr. McGuire

The book I am reading now is called Among The Impostors by Margaret Peterson Haddix. This post to you is about how my book is weird and surprising.

I was shocked when Luke hits Jason with a textbook. He did this because Luke was searching for Jason and he seen him talking to the population police on his phone. Jason seen Luke spying on him and he tried to capture him. When Jason got really close Luke hit Jason in the head with his textbook.

When Luke knocks him out he takes Jason to the nurse so he couldn’t go no where. When Luke left the nurses office he noticed that Jason’s phone was missing, so he went to look for it and got caught by Mr. Dirk.

When Luke was talking to Mr. Hendrickson (the school headmaster) he asked about how Jason’s phone was missing. He said that Jason was talking while he was unconscious saying “My phone…. Where’s my phone.” I thought that was weird.

This book series is good. I recommend this book to anyone that likes adventure and a lot of suspense. I’m sure almost anyone would like this series.

Dear Mr McGuire,

The book that I am reading is called The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. This letter to you is about how the author makes my book exciting.

He makes it exciting by using better words to replace the plain ones. Also The way the settings are in the book make it somewhat creepier and more imaginable. Even the monsters would be scary, like the metal ball things that came from the ceiling and took peoples heads.

The way he makes people act would be scary to be around. Like when the characters start going crazy, It makes everything exciting. Every character has their own unique personality.

The author also explains how the characters feel when something happens, like when Thomas gets shot he explains how it hurt so bad. And when Teresa beats Thomas up he tells about the excruciating pain in his jaw and head.

The whole book is so weird and crazy. This book has a lot of action and weird things happening throughout the whole thing. If you hadn’t have read it (Even though you have) I would recommend  this book to you.

From,
Caleb Woods

My Motivation

Posted: February 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

BB Jones came to school for an assembly and after that Mr. McGuire had us make a post about our motivations.

The person that motivated me the most was my Grandpa. I always wanted to be like him. He was the one that made me like I am today. He taught me respect and to always be happy.

This assembly made me realize how many people don’t have friends or possibly even any family. It made me feel better about myself and how nice it is to have friends instead of being alone all the time. After the assembly I stated to have a lot more respect for my friends.

Strengths

Posted: February 15, 2012 in Uncategorized

I think my strength is being really smart. If I could take that strength one step further I could be a scientist or a doctor. I would impact the world by creating new substances or cure cancer. I could be a teacher for college and help people become really smart too.

I could help people with math and other subjects. Also I could have my own science lab museum. I could use my smarts for the war and create new weapons. This would help the army win the wars they are in.

I could use my smarts also for architecture. These buildings would have a school, hospital, parking lot, and science lab. My strength would be so good I could rule the world.

Recess

Recess was crazy. My friend Keifer and I will play sharks and minnows at recess, like usual with the other sixth graders. I like to be a minnow because I am really fast and I like to challenge myself. It was the last round of the game when the sharks said go. I was off like a bolt of lightning when all of the sudden I got ambushed by a lot of people. Keifer was running on the other side of the playground when Tristan jumps out and gets him with the football. Now all their attention is towards me. I stop abruptly to think about what to do. I was out of energy and I was so close to safety. Thats when my instincts kicked in. I started running as fast as I could, my mind racing. Jaden was about to get me so I cut to the left and use all of my energy. What really bummed me out was that when I was just about to make it Mrs. Bowlby blew the whistle. At least it was still fun.

Happiness

I love being happy. When people see me I think they see me as a happy person because I’m almost always smiling and laughing. Being happy makes my life so much better because I have so many friends now. I think it sucks being sad. When I get sad I try to get over it and move on. When I’m happy I feel like I can do anything. You can’t achieve anything being sad or grumpy.

A couple years ago when my grandpa died someone told me to live everyday to its fullest and to always be happy. Ever since then I have always tried to get to my goals.  I believe that people think I am happy because at recess my friends I are like crazy people.
